Ballara Weddings

Weddings, our venue choice, Ballara Receptions hosted Adam’s grandfather’s funeral, and in the aftermath, many in the family agreed it would be a beautiful place for a wedding.

When the time came, we visited Ballara first and were enthralled by the natural beauty, the friendliness of the staff, and the elegance of the function room. We’ve both grown up in the northeast, so Ballara felt local and a pretty setting for our special day and is where the wedding photography took place.

How we met:

We matched on Bumble and met for the first time at a cafe in January of 2019. Megan: I thought Adam was easy to converse with and interesting, as he had been through text messages. I thought he’d put effort into his appearance and looked handsome; the neat red beard, bright blue eyes and smart shirt. His close relationship with his family was immediately attractive, as was the way he really listened to me. Adam: I caught a fleeting glimpse of Megan walking to our date location while driving there, and my internal monologue immediately said, and I quote: “I think that’s my date… oh my God, she’s so hot!”. Then when we met for the first time, in all honesty I was a bit surprised at how dressed-down she was for a first date and figured there wouldn’t be much coming from this one! And I’m glad I have never been more wrong.

The Proposal:

Adam proposed to Megan on her 31st birthday at their home in Airlie Rd, Montmorency. Adam had come home early from work to bake a collection of gluten free donuts (Megan is a coeliac) and arrange them into a de facto birthday cake. Afterwards, he took her out to Primo in Westgarth for dinner (GF pizza). Upon returning home, he suggested the two of them play the first board game they ever played together: Mysterium. This is a game where one player gives the others clues and they have to guess the correct answers from these clues. In the final round, Adam threw the clues away, got down on one knee and popped the question. How did it make you feel? Megan: I had my suspicions Adam might propose and was delighted with how he did it. I felt loved and excited for our future together with more of our favourite things (the movies and walks and board games and talks over cups of tea). Adam: Relieved she’d said yes, honestly! I’d spent the weeks leading up to it stressing about all the fine details. But then immediately very happy.

I absolutely love shooting at Ballara Receptions. The place is just magical. The gardens are so lush and colorful, giving us countless perfect spots for photos. Inside, the main reception area is beautiful and airy, with lots of natural light that makes every moment feel so genuine and romantic. It’s a fantastic spot for capturing those big emotions and small, intimate moments. Every time I’m there, it feels less like a job and more like I’m just hanging out with the couple, making sure we capture their story in the most beautiful way possible.

Andrew was exactly the person we were looking for to capture our special day. Our interest was immediately piqued by his portfolio and after a Zoom meeting, we knew he was the right photographer for us. He arrived on the dot precisely when we’d asked and patiently navigated our stresses of the day.
